Sarah Beaty Ceramics

Ceramics, by local artist Sarah Beaty, for sale

Sarah lives and works in Fort Yukon. After completing her MFA at the University of Iowa, she moved to Alaska in 2001, teaching Ceramics first at UAS in Juneau from 2001-2002, and then at UAF from 2002-2003. She moved to Fort Yukon, her husband’s home village in 2003. After refurbishing an old log workshop into a studio and building a kiln, Sarah began making work from Fort Yukon. All of her work is ceramic thrown, hand-built, or slip-cast porcelain and stoneware; and high-fired in a fast-fire style wood kiln (the only kiln of its kind located above the Arctic Circle). She imports dry clay, equipment, and other materials via barge from Seattle every summer. She fires her kiln with white spruce cast-off slabs that come from a sawmill operated by her husband. sarahbeatyceramics@gmail.com

Sarah and her husband also sell honey from their own beehives as well as eggs from their chickens and wood from their lumber mill.
